A Tagua seed (often called a Tagua nut or vegetable ivory) is the hard seed of the Tagua palm (Phytelephas), a palm native to the rainforests of Ecuador, Colombia, Peru, and other parts of the Amazon region.

When the seed dries, it becomes remarkably hard and smooth, with a creamy white interior that closely resembles elephant ivory. This is why it’s known as vegetable ivory.

What makes Tagua special:

It is 100% natural and biodegradable.

The seeds are collected after they naturally fall from the palm, so harvesting does not require cutting down trees.
Using Tagua helps provide income for local communities while encouraging the preservation of rainforest ecosystems, because living forests become more valuable than cleared land.
