A Tagua seed (often called a Tagua nut or vegetable ivory) is the hard seed of the Tagua palm (Phytelephas), a palm native to the rainforests of Ecuador, Colombia, Peru, and other parts of the Amazon region.
When the seed dries, it becomes remarkably hard and smooth, with a creamy white interior that closely resembles elephant ivory. This is why it’s known as vegetable ivory.
